Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery) in Orlando
Sagging of the upper lid is common and occurs with older age. It is caused by loose excessive skin, weak muscles, or a combination of both. Repeated stretching causes the skin and muscles of the upper eyelid to lengthen. Additionally, bags may develop under the eyes with age. Though less frequent, some young individuals can experience this condition. In some cases, this sagging skin can hinder vision. When this happens, a procedure called Blepharoplasty is used to remove the excess skin and tissue to clear the visual field. Blepharoplasty can also be used to improve patient appearance by eliminating loose skin and wrinkles to create a younger look.
Blepharoplasty is performed under local anesthesia with mild sedation. Incisions in the eyelid are usually placed in the crease above each eye to correct problems of the upper lid. To remove the fatty deposits beneath the eyes, the incisions are placed just inside the lower eyelid. Incisions are closed with tiny absorbable sutures.
