Optometrist in Orlando
Treat everyone as a family member or a friend.
Board-certified Optometrist Dr. Viviana López was born in Puerto Rico but grew up in Kissimmee, Florida. As a child, she was always interested in anything that involved music and dancing, but her career passion gravitated toward the medical field. She graduated from high school with a Certified Nurse Assistant degree, thinking perhaps to go on to earn her nursing degree in college.
“But I found out that nursing was really not for me,” Dr.López admits. A local Optometrist had hired her as an Optometric Tech while she was still in high school. She discovered the specialty of Optometry within the medical field and knew it was her calling. “I fell in love and it has been my passion since.”
Board-certified to treat and manage ocular disease, Dr.López attended the University of Central Florida, Orlando for her pre-medical training as a Biology major. She then entered the Inter American University of Puerto Rico, School of Optometry program, where she received training for primary eye care under clinical supervision, as well as refractive and ocular pathology management. Externships offered her hands-on experience in refractive/cataract surgery co-management, disease management, and primary care optometry.
Upon graduation in 2005, she went on to complete a primary residency at Orlando’s Bird Eye Institute for cornea specialty training in a private ophthalmology practice. A stand-out student, during her post-medical training
Dr. López earned the Bausch + Lomb Most Outstanding Student Contact Lens Award. She received additional training in refractive and contact lens training, as well as refractive and ocular pathology training.
Her ongoing training and education in the field she loves, quite literally since a teen-ager, has taught her the value of continuing education. She has pursued continuing professional education at both Alcon Laboratories in Fort Worth, TX, and Vistakon Laboratories in Jacksonville, Florida. Her professional philosophy is, “Never get too comfortable with your profession and your clinical knowledge.”
Her move to EyeCare Optical, as part of the Magruder Eye Institute team, would be a story to delight anyone’s mother.
“Since I was from the Orlando area, I grew up watching Magruder Eye Institute become the highly respected comprehensive eye care practice it is today. Mom always told me that I should join the Magruder Eye Institute. I never listened. However, one day the opportunity arose for me to become part of this dedicated team of eye care professionals – and I am extremely happy I did. I feel part of a huge family and I am enjoying every second of it. I love coming to work!”
Dr.López and her husband have two children and the family loves to enjoy beach time any chance they get.
